The group Direktori was formed in the spring of 1989, but the name was determined only until the end of 1990. At the very beginning, they played the repertoire of the groups Sham 69, Cocney Rejects like them. Their first performance took place in May 1991 at the Novi Sad Festival. Because they emphasized the political coloring of their songs at the very beginning of their work («Bando crvena» was written on March 9, 1991), it was difficult for them to achieve a breakthrough in the media due to the tight control of the regime. Articles with negative connotations were often published in newspapers directly targeting them, but this, during the already advanced dictatorship in Serbia, only hastened the group’s breakthrough.
