Rebel Riot is a punk band from Yangon, Myanmar, formed in 2007 after the onset of the Saffron Revolution. During this time in Myanmar many people were protesting against the oppression and corruption of the military system. Rebel Riot playing small underground gigs. They wanted to use music as a way to speak about freedom and the errors of the current political system.
We are not just a band but also a punk community, we work together as a punk scene organising social activities to help people, standing together in solidarity with our brothers and sisters. Currently we run volunteer groups of Food Not Bombs — Myanmar & Books Not Bombs — Myanmar while our community businesses are Rebel — Screen Printing Myanmar, Rebel Tattoo House, Rebel — Punk Shop Yangon, Rebel — Hair design & body piercing. We want to keep growing and do even more activities with our punk community together.
